Refresh. Refill. Replace.

In my early 20s, I worked as a server at The Cheesecake Factory.

One of the first things I learned was the iced tea protocol: Refresh. Refill. Replace.

If the iced tea didn’t have much condensation, still had plenty of unmelted ice, and only a few sips were gone, you’d simply bring over the pitcher and refresh it at the table.

If the glass was half full but not dripping with condensation (or half empty, depending on how you see things 😉), you’d take it to the beverage station, add fresh ice, and refill the glass.

But if the glass was nearly empty, the ice melted, and the condensation was long gone, that’s when you’d replace it with a brand-new glass filled with crisp ice and fresh tea.

A few months ago, I realized my website was past the “refill” stage.

Over the years, I’d made tweaks, added sections, updated photos…all the little refreshes and refills that kept things going.

But this time, it needed something different. It was time for a replace.

So I poured a new glass.
New look.
New design.
New energy that reflects who I’ve become and where my work has evolved.

In leadership, business, or life, we often keep refreshing or refilling things that really need to be replaced.

Maybe it’s a strategy that’s no longer serving you.
A system that once worked but now feels outdated.
A mindset or identity that’s run its course.

What in your life or work needs a refresh, a refill, or a replace?

And if you’re curious what my new glass looks like, I’d love for you to take a look around:

I hope it inspires you to notice where a little (or big) renewal might be calling for your attention, too.

If you like my new website and yours may need to be replaced, I highly recommend my web designer Kathy Kwon of Bright Matters Studio. Not only is she a brilliant designer and artist, we have been friends since high school!
