Excuses Are Fear's Best Friend
Fear is clever.
It rarely introduces itself as fear. That would make it way too easy.
Instead, it tends to sound remarkably reasonable:
“I’m too busy right now.”
“I need to think about it.”
“The timing isn’t right.”
“I should probably do a little more research.”
“I’ll do it when I feel more confident.”
“I just need more experience first.”
And here’s the annoying part:
Sometimes those things are true.
Sometimes waiting really is the right decision.
But fear loves a reasonable explanation.
Because a really good excuse gives fear something it desperately wants:
Plausible deniability.
We don’t have to admit we’re scared. We get to tell ourselves we’re being responsible. Strategic. Practical.
Meanwhile, the thing we really want to do remains safely undone.
So the next time you catch yourself explaining why you can’t do something you actually want to do, be honest with yourself:
“Is this actually a reason… or is fear just giving me a really good excuse?”
Fear doesn’t always tell you to run.
Sometimes it simply says, “Wait.”
And if you listen long enough, “wait” can quietly become “never.”

🎬 Apparently, I’m a TV Judge Now...
The first episode of Top Coach, the world’s first life and executive coaching competition show, has officially dropped!
And I’m ecstatic to share that I was selected to be THE JUDGE for Season 1!
I got to watch some incredible coaches put their skills to the test—and make some very difficult decisions along the way.
I have a feeling you’re going to want to see what happens next. 👀

If something in your life, leadership, or work is asking for more than another quick fix, maybe it’s time for deeper work.
I have limited availability for yearlong 1:1 coaching partnerships in 2027.
If you’re curious about what we could create together, let’s have a conversation.
